The Republic of Cyprus and its competent authorities promote a well-rounded, progressive action plan for sports, President of the Republic, Nicos Anastasiades, has said addressing the opening ceremony of the Ju Jitsu World Cup U15, 13th Seniors Balkan Open 2016, that takes place in the southern coastal town of Larnaka, Cyprus.
In his address, which was read out by Presidential Commissioner for Humanitarian Issues and Overseas Cypriots, Photis Photiou, President Anastasiades said that it is a great honour for Cyprus to host such a high-calibre event, especially as it involves the sport of Ju-Jitsu, which is one of the most fascinating and dynamically developing games in the contemporary world sports arena.
`In observing so many top-class international athletes compete in our country can only fill us with feelings of contentment. Your presence here is an excellent opportunity to project and promote this unique martial art, as well as the potential of Cyprus to organize and host high-level events` he said.
Such events in countries of the size of Cyprus, the President noted, have a strong added value and bring out our potential that is, `in many issues, conversely proportionate to our size`.
`The Republic of Cyprus and its competent authorities promote a well-rounded, progressive action plan for sports. I trust that hosting world-class tournaments, like this one, will be the cornerstone in our efforts to showcase and materialise the well-known Greek ancient quote: “Healthy mind in healthy body”` the President stressed.
Concluding, he congratulated all those who contributed to the success `of this important event` and wished all athletes all the best in their personal lives and their careers
