The Editor
Dear Sir/Madam,
Instead of the Tories claiming credit for things they haven’t done, I suggest that in future they are more honest with the electorate. They are well aware that it was the Labour administration that secured the funding which paid for:
(a) the new school in the heart of Edmonton, Starks Field School;
(b) the renovation of Lea Valley High; and
(c) the extension at Tottenham School.
These projects were all started through the hard work of my predecessor, Brian Grayston, along with the Labour administration, which succeeded in securing £21 million for these major works to be carried out.
The Tories should address certain issues in our borough and in our schools, such as the GCSE results, where many schools could have done better, instead of concentrating on past glories which were not their own achievement.
I am sure the Tories will join me in welcoming the grant recently given by the Government, which will mean that Bishops Stopford will benefit by £7½ million, Chace Community will receive £6 million and Winchmore Hill will also receive £6 million.
Best wishes,
Yours sincerely,
Councillor George Sawa, M.B.E.
