Repairing the damage on the electricity network in the fire stricken areas of Limassol continues unabated, EAC spokesperson Christina Papadopoulou told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) on Sunday.
Papadopoulou said that so far 178 of the 400 burnt poles have been replaced, 8 of the 50 burnt transformers have been replaced, and 3.5 kilometers of medium voltage overhead network have been constructed.
She further said that 100 burnt poles have been removed from dangerous locations and work continues.
“Everyone is there, working non-stop, the coordination by the team of directors that has taken over from the beginning is tremendous. They are coordinating teams of over 150 people under very difficult conditions and at great risk. It is an achievement, but they will continue to work for many days,” she stressed.
She reminded that mobile generators are supplying the centre of seven communities while the power supply to another nine communities has been restored. A great effort is underway at the same time to rebuild the entire network.
“Our priority is to set up the backbone of the network, then the branches, from the medium voltage we will be able to later set up the low-voltage network, and afterward, we will be able to go from house to house to inspect, ensure they are secured, and connect them,” she noted.
Asked about the picture provided by the drones used by the Authority in the last two days to record the damage in inaccessible areas, Papadopoulou said that they carried out checks in all the locations within the inaccessible areas and recorded everything that needed to be recorded.
Meanwhile, the Water Development Department, in a statement issued on Saturday, noted that it continues its efforts at van intensive pace to fully restore water supply to all fire-affected communities, while water is being provided centrally to all communities.
At this moment, it said, “water is being provided centrally to all communities, and work continues to fully repair all leaks, springs, and pumping stations that have been destroyed or damaged”.
At the same time, the Water Development Department is providing support to communities facing issues within their local water supply networks, responding immediately to any relevant information from local authorities, the statement concluded.
