X-Factor star Monica Michael has told St Andrew the Apostle School students to remember to never give up on what they want to achieve as they grow up. Speaking as guest of honour at the school’s annual Carol Concert on Wednesday (16 December), Miss Michael, from Enfield, praised the students for the talent they’d demonstrated during their performances and said: “I was ripped down in front of millions of people last year and then I came back this year – so my motto is don’t give up! When something doesn’t go to as planned, don’t get disheartened.”
She added she had been aware that many of the students had supported her during the X-factor competition and this was the first opportunity she had had to visit the school to say ‘thank you’.
The evening was organised by Head of Performing Arts, Mr. Kostas Lasithiotakis, and featured solos, ensembles, traditional carols and Bible readings as well as rousing Christmas songs. It was one of a series of events ending what has proved to be an outstanding term of achievement for the school in North London Business Park.
Last week a team of Year 8 and 9 students were selected to represent the Spurs Foundation in this season’s Premier League Enterprise Challenge. The scheme offers students a unique apprenticeship programme that enables them to develop their leadership potential, learn accounting skills, and gain practical experience in paid employment.
Students also took part in a number of charitable activities contributing Christmas hampers to Enfield food bank, a Christmas-themed non-uniform day and carol singing at Autumn Gardens retirement home in Southgate.
The term ended with a special treat for the students, with staff performing an entertaining and modern version of the traditional pantomime, Cinderella.
