84-year-old man robbed of his holiday money in Winchmore Hill

Detectives in Enfield are appealing for information and witnesses after an 84-year-old man was knocked to the ground and robbed of €4,000.

Police were called to Wades Hill, N21 in the afternoon of Saturday, 21 March to reports of a robbery and spoke to the victim who explained how he had returned home by car and was set upon by a single male suspect who assaulted him before taking the money from his pocket. The suspect left in a grey Audi car.

The victim was taken to a north London hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition having sustained a fractured femur which will require surgery.

The suspect is described as an East European man in his mid to late 20s, of medium build with short black hair and a moustache. He was wearing a black Parker-style jacket with a fur-lined hood, blue jeans and black shoes.

Detective Constable John McCarthy, from Enfield CID, said: “This was a vicious and sickening attack on a vulnerable elderly man who had exchanged money ahead of a holiday with his wife. There is a strong indication that he was targeted and followed by the suspect from the money exchange shop in Oakwood.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to call police on 101 quoting reference 5206085/15 or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
