AEK Larnaca advanced into the third qualifying round of the Europa League on Thursday night after beating Northern Ireland’s Cliftonville 2-0 to seal a 5-2 aggregate victory.
Imanol Idiakez’s side had taken the lead through Vladimir Boljevic’s powerful strike before Joan Tomas added a second just after the break. The visitors suffered a blow with just 11 minutes gone with Caoimhin Bonnor seeing red for a rash challenge.
AEK piled on the pressure after the break with Andre Alves guilty of some wasteful finishing.
The Larnaca club, who made history in 2011 by becoming the first club from the island to reach the group stages of the Europa League, will now face far stiffer opposition in Russian Premier League side Spartak Moscow on July 28.
The first leg will take place in Larnaca.
