Yesterday’s massive demonstration of educational organizations conveyed a powerful message to the Anastasiades-DISY government, which it must at long last hear.
The government must abandon its arrogance and authoritarianism and withdraw its unilateral decisions. The government must understand that it is in conflict with all educators, teachers and Cypriot society.
The withdrawal of the government’s unilateral decisions will create the possibility for an institutionalized dialogue, which the educational organizations have long said they are ready to engage in. This is the way to overcome the crisis in the field of Education, which the Anastasiades-DISY government provoked with its unilateral decisions.
The widespread participation of educational organizations and factions and the mass participation of teachers in the demonstration have demolished the ridiculous claim made by the government and ruling forces that the teacher’s reactions are being instigated by AKEL. The government and ruling forces, instead of trying to provoke the reactions of teachers, should withdraw their unilateral decisions and enter into a meaningful dialogue with them.
For the sake of the public education system!
