British man discovered dead in Paralimni, Cyprus

A British man, whose decomposing body was discovered on Thursday night in Paralimni, is suspected to have died from alcoholism.

According to police, the 51-year-old man had been on holiday in Cyprus and was staying at the hotel in Paralimni. A telephone call came in to Famagusta CID at 7pm from a woman who said that a body of a man had been discovered in a state of decomposition at the hotel.

There had previously been reports of a foul smell emanating from the victim’s room. The balcony door of the hotel room had been left room and the woman – who had made the telephone call to police – entered before making the grim discovery of the Briton lying dead on the couch.

Officers arrived and quickly closed off the area. Several witnesses had said that the victim had been suffering from alcohol-related problems.

His body was taken by ambulance to Larnaca General Hospital where an autopsy is scheduled to take place later on Friday to determine the exact cause of death.
