Crime crackdown in Ducketts Common in Turnpike Lane

Drug dealing, dodgy shops and loutish behaviour are all the subject of a crackdown, as Haringey Council and the police step up action in Ducketts Common.

Both the council’s enforcement and anti-social behaviour teams have been carrying out a series of visits to the open space and surrounding roads, following concerns about illegal activity and nuisance behaviour.

Work has included:

  • Dispersing 10 men who were drinking or drunk in the park
  • Issuing two fixed penalty notices for littering
  • Encouraging residents to report anti-social behaviour in the area
  • Visiting eight shops and removing two electricity meters which had been illegally and dangerously tampered with

Haringey Council Cabinet Member for Communities Cllr Bernice Vanier said: “Ducketts Common is a vibrant and popular open space that is much loved by the local community but we know there are some problems and it is important that both we and the police continue to have a high presence there, while we work towards making it an even safer, cleaner and more welcoming place to visit.

“We will continue working closely with residents, businesses and groups such as the Friends of Ducketts Common to improve this open space and the surrounding area.”

Further operations are planned for Ducketts Common in the coming months and the council is also planning to install CCTV, at the request of park users, which will be used to capture any anti-social behaviour or crimes committed.
