2nd leg: Nea Salamina 0-1 AEK (AEK go through 2-0 on aggregate)

Ermis Aradippou, AEK Larnaca and Karmiotissa booked their places in the quarterfinals of the Cyprus Coca-Cola Cup on Wednesday while Omonia also have one foot in the next round after thrashing Ayia Napa 4-0.

Nikki Papavasiliou’s Ermis had an easy afternoon beating Doxa Katokopia at the Dasaki Stadium following their 3-1 victory in the first leg in Nicosia last week. A goal in each half from Besart Ibraimi ensured last season’s finalists reached the last eight with a 5-1 aggregate success.

AEK Larnaca – who like Ermis are enjoying a good run in the league championship this season – scored in injury time through Vladimir Boljevic to secure a 1-0 success at Nicos Panagiotou’s Nea Salamina at the Ammochostos Stadium.

The first leg had finished 1-0 in favour of Thomas Christiansen’s side.

Karmiotissa Polemidia – who currently leading the way in the second division title race – secured their place in the quarterfinals of the competition for the first time in their history after clinching a 3-1 aggregate win over fellow second division rivals Anagennises Dherynia.

Giorgos Iosifides’ side had won the first leg 2-1 before veteran midfielder Liasos Louca scored on 50 minutes to secure a 1-0 win in the second leg.

Omonia all but sealed their place in the quarterfinals after a resounding 4-0 win over Ayia Napa. Costas Kaiafas side – who were stunned 2-1 at home by the same opponents in the league earlier in the season – took the lead through Maltese winger Andre Schembri just after halftime and the contest was put beyond doubt six minutes later after further goals from Leandro and Andraz Kirm.

Onisiforos Roushias capped off the win with a late striker 15 minutes from time.

Christakis Christoforou’s AEL still have work to do in the Cyprus Cup tie against Ethnikos Achnas after edging a 1-0 win at a waterlogged Tsirio Stadium in the late kickoff on Wednesday night.

The rain fell down in sheets but it still didn’t prevent AEL secure a 1-0 victory courtesy of a Marco Tagbajumi penalty late on. The same player missed several chances to add to his tally having previously scored four times in his last two games.

In other games on Wednesday, APOEL looked unconvincing as they laboured to a 1-0 win against a youthful Olympiakos Nicosia side in their first leg meeting in a game which saw new German boss Thorsten Fink make his debut in the dugout since replacing Giorgos Donis.

Fink was missing a host of first team players including Gustavo Manduca, Carlao, Tiago Gomes and Vinicius but still saw his side clinch a win at the Makarios Stadium through a Rafik Djebbour penalty on 72 minutes.

Anorthosis Famagusta were also given a scare at the GSZ Stadium after they too struggled to get past lower league Digenis Oroklini. An early strike from Gonzalo Garcia was quickly cancelled out by a shock Constantinos Nikolaides equaliser. Andre Paus’ men quickly retook the lead through Markus Holgersson before halftime and held on to seal the away win.
