Dust levels continue to be high in Cyprus on Saturday

Dust levels continue to be high on Saturday and the public and in particular vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and the infirm are advised to avoid going out, due to health risk dust particles pose, an official press release says.

It notes that the average hourly concentration of respirable particulate matter (PM) with a diameter smaller than 10 micrometers in the atmosphere are increased on Saturday, ranging between 79 and 209 mg/m³ and therefore it is expected that the average concentration over 24 hours will exceed the limit of 50 mg/m³ on the basis of the relevant legislation.

Due to the small size of the dust particles and the possible negative impact they have on human health, the public and in particular vulnerable groups of the population (children, elderly and infirm) are advised to avoid going to open spaces until the phenomenon is over.
