Employee beaten up for changing jobs in Cyprus

A man was stubbed on Monday night in the middle of a Nicosia street in what appears to be a business feud.

The victim, a 35-year-old male from Bangladesh, used to work at a butcher shop owned by an Iraqi man. But his employer was not pleased when the victim decided to go and work for another butcher.

According to the police, the victim was riding his scooter on Kallipoleos Street near the University of Cyprus at around 11pm when two hooded men cut him off. He fell from his bike and tried to run away, but the suspects chased him to Efesou Street, a nearby side road, and managed to injure him with a knife on several parts of his body.

The victim was taken to Nicosia General Hospital and is said to be out of danger.

Police questioned the victim’s former employer, a butcher shop owner from Iraq who has denied any involvement in the case.

Authorities are looking into the possibility that the former employer resented the fact that the victim left him for another employer.

Police are carrying on with their investigation.
