Enfield Labour welcomes new weekend safety patrols in local parks

Enfield Labour is pleased that Enfield Council has started weekend safety patrols in some of our parks to help tackle anti-social behaviour and keep the parks clean and safe.
Council officers algonside Met Police Officers are patrolling parks like Craig Park, Pymmes Park, Ponders End Park, Jubilee Park, Forest Road Childrens Playground, Albany Park, Town Park, Tottenhall Rec, Enfield Playing Fields, and so many more of our parks and green spaces.
Council Leader, Cllr Ergin Erbil said:

“Making Enfield cleaner, safer and fairer is at the heart of everything we do. Thanks to improved funding from the Labour Government, we’ve been able to put these extra patrols in place so that everyone can enjoy our parks.
A big thank you to the council staff working hard every weekend to help keep our parks safe and tidy. These patrols are focused on stopping a small number of inconsiderate people who cause problems for everyone else.
With the hot weather we’ve been having, some people might think it’s okay to have a barbecue in the park, but this can be very dangerous and cause fires. Our patrols, along with the London Fire Brigade and the Met Police, have been talking to people about staying safe and avoiding disposable barbecues. Last weekend, they spoke to people in Town Park and Albany Park about the risks.
The patrols are also helping us spot things that need fixing. For example, a damaged fence in Tottenhall Rec was reported and will now be replaced.
These patrols are making a real difference. In just the first week, they removed a machete from Jubilee Park and dealt with issues like drug use and littering. The good news is that each week, there are fewer problems in the parks covered by patrols.
Thanks to our park patrol teams and to everyone who is helping keep our parks safe, clean and enjoyable for all. We’re working shoulder to shoulder with the Met Police to create a safer Enfield.”
