Fire drill takes place at Larnaka airport

A large scale four-day fire and rescue drill began on Monday at Larnaka International Airport. The exercise will last until Thursday.

Larnaka District Officer at the Fire Department Stelios Stylianou told the press that the drill takes place in order to assess the preparedness of the firemen who are based at the airport and the firemen who serve in the other cities.

According to the scenario, an aircraft is supposed to land at the airport and right after a fire breaks out, providing for the firemen to respond immediately. The fire is fully extinguished using water, foam and powder and the passengers evacuate the plane with special ladders and the assistance of the firemen.

Stylianou assured the citizens that the firemen are fully trained and capable to cope with such an eventuality.
