Ryman League Division One North
Haringey Borough 3 Maldon 1
After the display against Norwich United on Saturday, Haringey’s manager, Tom Loizou made 4 changes to the starting 11 for the home game v Maldon & Tiptree on Monday night. Which after 90 minutes he was vindicated for his choices.
The game started slowly, but within ten minutes Haringey were two goals to the good. First Jamie-Lee O’Donoghue (a sub against Norwich) side-footed home from close range and five minutes late Daniel Aristidou’s 20 yard effort was deflected, leaving the Maldon keeper flatfooted.
The 2 goal Borough salvo woke Maldon up and Haringey were on the back foot for most of the first half. Tarryn Allarakhia, Keiran Monlouis both came close and Tyler Brampton hit the post with Ross Dedman clearing the follow-up.
Ishmail Kamara did have a chance just before half-time but sliced his shot and good work down the right by Aristidou. The referee’s whistle for 45 minutes came as a relief for the healthy home crowd.
The second half started with Maldon in control. But it wasn’t until 30 odd minutes into the half that the goal of the night occurred. A Haringey clearance was controlled by Maldon’s left back, Adam Mills in his own half and he went on a 30 yard run, the Borough defenders hanging back for a pass, he hit it from fully 35 yards out. The ball swerved, dipped over Harry Palmer, hit the crossbar and bounced down over the line.
It deserved to give Maldon at least a share of the spoils, but like Saturday Haringey had the last word.
Aristidou scored his second and Borough’s third, when he and Kamara combined just outside the box and the winger finished well. Before the resulting kick-off he was substituted to a well deserved standing ovation.
Try as they might, Maldon didn’t test Palmer again and the referee blew the final whistle with Haringey in control.
Haringey’s next game is the FAC 1st qualifying round versus Witham Town on Saturday 3rd September. As mention before season tickets are not valid, entrance will be just £3, with at least half going to Prostrate Cancer UK.
You can still apply for a season ticket on the day, so speak to anyone at the club or get in touch for details.
