Haringey noise enforcement team obtain criminal behaviour order against resident for persistent antisocial behaviour

A woman who made her neighbours’ lives a misery with nuisance noise has been prosecuted by Haringey’s enforcement team.

Beverley Sinclair has faced a string of actions, including successful prosecutions, over more than 10 years and has now been given a criminal behaviour order for breaching a noise abatement notice.

Haringey Council received more than 175 complaints about noise at a property on Winchelsea Road, N17, from more than 10 complainants. Equipment was taken from Ms Sinclair, but the complaints continued.

Earlier this month magistrates at Tottenham Magistrates Court made the criminal behaviour order. It means Ms Sinclair must not play any music after 10pm which can be heard at the site boundary of the property and she must not play any amplified music in her front or back gardens at any time. It is effective for 3 years since.

Any breach of the order could lead to her being imprisoned.

At a previous hearing she had pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a noise abatement notice. She was fined £400 and must contribute £807 to prosecution costs.

Cllr Peray Ahmet, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “This prosecution shows we are serious about tackling nuisance noise and antisocial behaviour in Haringey.”
