The IMF believes that there has been considerable progress in the negotiations with the Cyprus government the past few days, a source close to the Monetary Fund has told CNA.
The source, outside the IMF, told CNA’s correspondent on Wednesday that “they feel (the IMF) there has been considerable progress these past few days on a number of issues that were pending”.
“Having said that, there still remain a few open issues, but a lot less than what they were last week”, the same source underlined.
Asked when the Troika delegation (EC, ECB, IMF) will return to Cuprus, the same source told CNA that “a date has not been set yet”.
Speaking earlier to the press, Government Spokesman Stefanos Stefanou saιd that the delegation is expected to visit Cyprus next week, however the exact date has not yet been set.
Cyprus applied for financial assistance from the EU bailout mechanism (EFSF/ESM) to recapitalize its banking sector whose liquidity has been depleted as a result of the Greek sovereign debt haircut as well as to cover its fiscal needs.
