Injured Marcos Baghdatis gives details on s-Hertogenbosch withdrawal

Cypriot tennis player Marcos Baghdatis didn’t hide his disappointment after being forced to withdraw from s-Hertogenbosch due to a left hamstring injury. The 32-year-old was set to meet Australian Bernard Tomic in round one on Tuesday.

The Cypriot withdrew just before the match — which opened a place for lucky loser Kevin King. Baghdatis, who has played in s-Hertogenbosch five times so far in his career, was set to play at the event for the first time since 2013.

The Cypriot reached the semi-final at the tournament in 2006 and 2011. The 32-year-old last played at the French Open — where he was forced to retire his first round match. Baghdatis hopes that he will be ready to kick off his grass-season next week in Halle and make his seventh appearance at the German grass-court event.

“Very much to my regret I have to announce that I have withdrawn from Rosmalen that is one of my favorite grass court tournaments due to (an) injury. I had hoped that all the intensive treatments and physiotherapies I had taken the last two weeks would heal the injury, However, when I woke-up this morning I felt pain again and so decided to withdraw.

I shall continue treating the injury and hopefully will be well and fit for Halle,” Baghdatis.
