First Division
Omonia 3 Olympia 1
This was a David v Goliath game the league leaders Omonia versus bottom of the table Olympia, you would have thought this game would have been one sided but Olympia with new manager Peter Charalambous at the helm gave Omonia a battle.
Olympia did very well even though they had no keeper and started off a little slow and gifted Omonia a goal within the first 10 minutes with a Adem Ali strike . Olympia went a goal down before they started playing football! Eventually Omonia scored a second with Adem Ali making it a little more comfortable for them. All of a sudden Olympia’s Lawrence Rispoli hit a 35 yarder that flew into the top right corner, the keeper had no chance! At 2-1 Omonia got rattled and Olympia were back in the game! The game remained at 2-1 until the last ten minutes when a Olympia player commited a silly foul to get his second yellow card and be sent off. Omonia then attacked in numbers and got their 3rd goal from Stefanos with about 7 minutes to go!
Apoel 1 Livadia 0
It was an important game for both teams who are trying to ease their relegation worries but it went all wrong for Livadia from the first minute when their goal keeper hashed up a soft shot from Apoel’s striker Matt Gulfer to let it go through his legs. The game continued with both sides attacking like mad but limiting their chances with long distance shots. A very important win for Apoel.
Arachne 4 Brotherhood 1
Arachne surprised us this week with this comfortable win over Brotherhood, it was a confidence booster they really needed. It might be too late to save their season but you never know.
Arachne came out the blocks really quickly. They pressed Brotherhood really well and were soon rewarded with a goal from an Ant Panayi cross which resulted in a Brotherhood defender heading into his own goal 10 minutes into the game.
Arachne increased the tempo and Brotherhood couldn’t handle it. Lorenzo Toumazos pressured the centre back which led him to win the ball and chip the keeper to make it 2-0.
On twenty minutes Chris Constantinides won a header against the Brotherhood keeper which allowed Rohan Reid to slide it into the back of the net to make it 3-0.
The second half Arachne killed the game with a looping header from Chris Constantinides.
Brotherhood’s lone goal came at the end from Ismet Sumbul.
Second Division
Cetinkaya Cinar 3 Achna 0
A lack lustre first half, which took a quality goal on 24 minutes for the game to come alive. A lovely pass by Zaine Martin to Junior Adeoye who ran on goal. The Achna defender comitted himself to a tackle but Junior cut back the ball and coolly placed the ball for 1-0.
Cetinkaya Cinar’s dominance in the second half failed to produce the goals they are accustomed to, but on 58 minutes, Jay Morris hit an unstoppable 35 yard free kick which warmed the Cinar faithful on a bitter cold morning. Attack after attack by Cinar followed but on a couple of occasions the woodwork came to Achna’s aid. Cinar put the game to bed on 83 minutes when Tuncay Cager bagged another goal this week with a low curling shot for 3-0. Even with a couple of players missing this week, the Cinar thunder roars on.
Pantel 1 KLN 1
Pantel are a surprise team who on their day they can beat anybody in their division and this draw gives them an outside chance of promotion.
Pantel led from a goal from Alex Constantinides and KLN equalised with a 35 yard screamer from Spyros Mentis but this draw has put a dent in their promotion hopes.
