Malas calls on Anastasiades to take care of Cyprus

Stavros Malas who lost against Nicos Anastasiades the election to the Presidency of the Republic, called on the re-elected leader “to take care of Cyprus”.

Wishing the newly elected President well in his duties, he thanked those who worked hard to make his message reach everywhere and his family for standing by him.

Flanked by members of his campaign, supporters, AKEL members as well as family, Malas said the people’s verdict is completely respected. He congratulated Nicos Anastasiades who he telephoned and also thanked his rivals during the first round of the elections, Nicholas Papadopoulos and George Lillikas for their contribution.

Malas said he acknowledges that the result disappointed his supporters adding “we need to respect it. Above all, the fight was worth it”, he said, noting that it will not stop at elections. “The fight for the reunification of Cyprus for social justice, the rights of the working people and the lower social classes, the rights of women and the future of young people, the right for the values of solidarity, democracy and progress” will continue, he said.

I am certain that this fight will continue by all who are united by these visions, values and ideals. Thanking AKEL, he said that although he was not a member of the leftist movement, he will always respect the history of this party, its struggles as well as its people.

Malas said that he will not stop being an active citizen for the rights of the people and the country, adding “I hope that our effort will leave something positive behind for the political life of Cyprus. During these months we have proved that political dialogue can take place without populism and arrogance but with the power of arguments, proposals, rationality, mutual respect and honest confrontation”, Malas concluded.
