A man has been found guilty of murdering his girlfriend after stabbing her to death following an argument.
Gavin Wilson, 42 (15.07.74) of Ostell Crescent, Enfield, was convicted at Wood Green Crown Court on Tuesday, 24 January of killing Lindsey Smith, 42.
On Friday, 11 March 2016 Lindsey and Wilson were both at home. At around 16:00hrs they were seen outside, arguing over their dog.
They went back inside around 17:00hrs which is when the prosecution said Lindsey was attacked.
Wilson then left the address, returning around 23:30hrs. He woke neighbours who later told police Wilson, visibly distressed, was standing outside saying “she’s gone, my missus has gone” and “she’s gone, she’s so cold”.
The victim was found lying motionless on her back on a sofa inside with a bruised and swollen face. In the kitchen was a knife next to a blood smear.
The London Ambulance Service and police attended.
Lindsey was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics found a stab wound to her stomach as well as severe facial injuries.
Wilson initially told police that he had returned home and found Lindsey dead inside. Officers arrested him on suspicion of murder.
In interview he continued to deny being involved in Lindsey’s death. He was charged on Sunday, 13 March.
Further enquiries with friends he claimed to have spent time with that day showed Wilson had been lying about his movements.
Detective Inspector Paul Considine, from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “There was a history of domestic abuse between Wilson and Lindsey and on this particular day tensions boiled over and resulted in Wilson stabbing his girlfriend to death.
“He then lied to try to cover his tracks but evidence gathered by officers disproved his account and I am pleased at his conviction today.”
Wilson will be sentenced on Wednesday, 25 January at the same court.
