Morphou residents are staging a peaceful anti-occupation protest on Sunday to send the message that they will never forget or stop demanding the return of the town to its legal inhabitants.
The 32nd annual march at Asromeritis buffer zone area is part of a series of events called “Morphou memory days”.
In a message, President Christofias said the crystal clear of the Greek Cypriot side is that without the return of Morphou and Varoshia area, an overall settlement of the Cyprus problem cannot be viable.
The return of these prosperous towns should come under Greek Cypriot administration otherwise it cannot be accepted. “We have no right to compromise with the status quo that is the occupation by Turkish troops,” he also said before pledging that the sruggle for the island’s reunification will continue.
Cypriot and foreign officials are also taking part in the protest which began with a memorial service for the war dead and those missing since July 1974.
