KOPA Challenge Cup
Semi Final
Anorthosis 1 New Salamis 5
Anothosis gave New Salamis a big fright last night at New River Astro when they took the lead in the 25th minute when a shot from Danny Coolridge hit the bar and it was deflected back into the goal by a New Salamis defender. Anorthosis continued to create chances and they were stopping the red’s from gathering pace.
The second half New Salamis were a different team playing nice flowing football and gaining momentum they equalised with a Xiouris header who then increased the lead 2-1 with a repetitive move. Then it was the other centre half young Aris Savva who scored to make it 3-1 again with a header. Anorthosis were still going for it at this stage but then a penalty was awarded to the red’s which Douggie Morton took and was saved by the Anorthosis goal keeper George.
New Salamis got back into rhythm again and scored another two goals with Steve Velandia and Deniz Mehmet to win the game 5-1 and win a place in the final versus Apoel or Tripimeni who play Thursday night at Haringey Borough Stadium at 7.45pm
