1) Golders Green’s sky high rents shows why Barnet Labour’s action for renters is needed, according to a local councillor.
A new tube map has been published showing rental prices around Golders Green Station as the highest on the Edgware branch of the Northern Line in Barnet at an average £796 per month ( https://www.dosenews.co.uk/post/london-underground-rent-map).
Councillor Matt Perlberg of Childs Hill ward where the tube station is located said: “The Conservative Government did little to protect private renters and almost nothing to bring down the price of renting.
“Thankfully from ending no fault evictions to introducing a right to manage, the Labour Government is protecting private renters.
“Barnet Labour will introduce a private renters charter that will protect tenants. You can take part in the consultation here- https://www.engage.barnet.gov.uk/private-tenants-charter-consultation.”
2) East Finchley Councillors have welcomed more than 50 trees being planted in the ward during the summer of 2024.
The 53 trees in total have contributed to the Barnet Labour’s target of planting 1,000 trees per year.
East Finchley Councillor Arjun Mittra said: “Barnet Labour takes pride in the borough after the years of a stagnant Conservative administration.
“New trees in the ward are a boost, ane will help us improve our air quality as well as the beauty of our neighbourhoods.”
3) West Finchley councillors have welcomed plans to ensure that Finchley continues to be home to a cinema and a bowling alley.
The Great North Leisure Park, which is currently home to a bowling alley and a cinema, is due to be redeveloped for much needed housing.
However, developer Regal have submitted plans to replace the cinema and bowling alley at Lodge Lane.
West Finchley Councillor Danny Rich said: “ We desperately need new housing in Finchley, but I know some residents were worried about losing amenities. But its wonderful to see plans to ensure there is still a cinema and bowling alley in the area.”
