Over £4000 raised for Litsa Georgiou

Litsa charity

A charity fundraising event in aid of Litsa Georgiou, a mother of three who is battling with cancer and is in desperate need of treatment only available in Germany, raised over £4000.

The event, organised by Georgia Michaelides, took place on Sunday 26th January at Maze Inn in Southgate.

Georgia told Parikiaki, “We are overwhelmed with everyone’s support. I would like to thank all those who supported the event either by attending or donating for the raffle – special thanks to Raphael’s Bakery, Puji, Cos of London, Azamay, V Jewellers, Virgin Active Health Club, Hair Discovery, Burgeon, Greek On The Green, Babinondas, Deserie, Potty Pancakes, Tandoori Nights, Kervan Restaurant, Maze Inn, Skewd Kitchen, Wiltons Patisserie, Aroma Patisserie, Vanilla, Sugar Bake, Lefteris Bakery, The Chocolate Shop, Cockfosters Nails, Rose’s Nails, Tessa Stevens, Michael’s Hairdressers, Funky Divas, Purism, Strands Hair & Beauty, Coco Hair Studio, Nadya’s, Salon 101, Nick Cuts, Fineline Barbers, Miami Glow, Fakin It, Lil Miss Mav’s Jewels, Gold Boutique, Marie’s Shoes, Mi Boutique and Enfield Garden Centre.

“I would also like to personally thank Maria Couppas, Andrie Kozinos, Tas Couppas, Elena Kyriacou, Marianne Christodoulou, Mary Charalambous Shailos, Eve Argyrou Mavron and Andrea Petrou for all their help on the day. The event was a great success and Litsa is extremely grateful.”

Litsa Georgiou was only 9-years-old when diagnosed with ovarian cancer and was told she only had two weeks to live. Remarkably, against all expectations, she beat the cancer, only to have to fight it all over again in her 20s.
To the amazement of her doctors and cancer specialists, despite everything she had gone through; the cancers, the chemotherapy, the radiotherapy and despite being told that she wouldn’t grow old and would certainly never have children, Litsa was lucky enough to have three beautiful children now aged 9, 11 and 12.
Litsa, still only 39-years-old, has been described as a walking miracle, a medical anomaly, a true survivor, fighting battles no young woman should have to go through. She is well known and loved in her community, at her church and at her children’s schools. She would be described as a cheerful, busy mum, always kind and happy to help and support others. If enough people give even a tiny bit of the love she has shown to others, Litsa could have the chance of watching her children grow and flourish under her care.
In Autumn of last year, things went very wrong very quickly for Litsa; she was told she may only have months to live. She has an advanced and aggressive cancer that is at stage 4. Once again Litsa is having to fight back and for the time being, she’s still here cherishing the time she spends with her children.
The Royal Marsden Hospital has given its very best efforts to get Litsa back on the road to recovery but there is nothing more that can be done in this country. At present all treatments have now been withdrawn as the chemotherapy and blood transfusions are no longer keeping the cancer at bay, so now the clock is most definitely ticking.
There is a specialist clinic in Germany offering groundbreaking treatments that could help save her life, at the very least they expect to be able to buy her more time. The clinic is private and the treatments are extremely costly, at the moment they are out of the family’s reach.
This family desperately needs help and are asking for donations, however big or small. Any amount can make a massive difference – please visit http://www.gofundme.com/5gnp4w

You can also help Litsa’s cause by attending another fundraising event this Sunday 2nd February 2014, at the Cypriot Community Centre, Earlham Grove, Wood Green N22 5HJ.

The evening begins at 7pm. Tickets £20 including full menu, live music, and great raffle and auction prizes kindly donated by Cos of London, Puji, V Jewellers, Immortal Couture, Azamay, Hair Discovery, Mi Boutique and many others.

All proceeds from the event will go towards the treatment Litsa needs in Germany. Let’s all help save Litsa’s life!
