A Paphos businessman is facing jail time after allegedly pocketing the pension of his father, almost four years after he died.
According to Paphos CID investigators, the 48-year-old man had managed to get around €37,000 from his dead father’s pension which was being deposited by the Social Welfare Services to a private bank. He is currently under investigation for fraud, circulating forged documents and obtaining money under false pretences.
The alleged scam came to light when the local authorities discovered that he had not declared his father as dead. He has so far denied any wrongdoing.
The suspect was remanded in police custody on Friday.
