Police have confirmed that a pensioner drowned in Ayia Napa on Monday afternoon after going for a swim.
According to investigators, the 81-year-old man had been found unconscious by lifeguards at around 4.20pm and an ambulance was called. He was rushed to a nearby clinic where on-call doctors declared him dead-on-arrival.
An autopsy is set to take place later this morning to determine the exact cause of his death. Police in Ayia Napa are still investigating.
