Community football club Omonia Youth FC, sponsored by P&M Construction Ltd, had plenty of reasons to cheer as teams playing their final game of the season all came away with positive results.
Panos Papa-Michael and Andy Michael’s Under 13 Gold had to win to avoid relegation and impressed with a fantastic victory, winning 5-4 with the winning goal coming in the 9th minute of injury time. Playing with only 10 players, the team showed great passion and resilience against their opponents who were cup winners and league runners-up. Youssef scored four goals with George getting the other one. Quite rightly, the team as a whole were named Man of the Match.
Playing their final game of the season, Demi Shiamishi’s Under 13 Green produced a superb result to end the season with a victory. The Greens went 4-0 up in the first half with a hat-trick from MoM Nicolas Shiamishis, playing his first game up front this year. Other scorers were Sami Assim and Michael Petinou in a 5-2 win. Proud Manager Demi commented that what impressed him most was “…the fluid game with lots of passing and energy that contributed to the final score.”

Andy Charalambous’ Under 14’s White finished their final game of the season with a 4-4 draw after being down 4-0 at one point. In an amazing game, the team showed great character to score 4 goals in the last 15 mins of the game to secure the draw and finish joint runners up. This was Andy Charalambous’ final match as manager and his response at the end was one of pride as he commented “…it was emotional.” Goal scorers were Steven (2), Harry D and Luis. Man of the Match was awarded to the whole team.
Finally, in the Mid Herts Premier League, the Under 14 Green capped off a fine season with another dominant performance winning 5-0. Goals scorers were George Stasi (4) and Mikey Dionisiou. Man of the Match was awarded to Christos Pedrithes who gave a very accomplished all round display as the number 4 role as the central defensive midfielder. The performance and the result was a great way to end the season. The entire team have contributed to a memorable year finishing runners up in a very competitive league. A special mention to George Stasi scoring 45 league goals in 20 league games and a total of 52 for the season. The team scored a total of 119 league goals in total, a phenomenal achievement. The management and coaching team of Varney Michael, Neo Petrides, Dean Dionisiou and Mario Kleopa are very proud of their team and offered this simple comment, “We go again next season.”
