A serial burglar who committed three offences in north London has been jailed for five years.
Jason Goldberg, 39 (22.11.77) of no fixed abode carried out his spree between 13 November 2016 and 7 January targeting addresses in Highgate, Wood Green and Finsbury Park.
Goldberg first struck on 13 November 2016 when he broke into a multi-occupancy address in Ranelagh Road, N22. Once inside the empty property, Goldberg stole a quantity of items including computers, cash, perfume and jewellery.
He next struck over the Christmas period at an address in Crouch Hill, N4. The owners were away celebrating Christmas when Goldberg smashed a kitchen window and gained access to their house – he stole cash and a computer.
His final offence took place at an address in Hazellville Road, N6 on 7 January. Goldberg forced entry to the property and was in the process of stealing cash, credit cards and computers when he was disturbed by the male occupant. As he was challenged, Goldberg punched the victim and hit him with a chair before fleeing the scene.
Officers investigating the cases established Goldberg as their prime suspect and he was arrested in Finsbury Park on 3 May. When arrested he was in possession of a bag containing screwdrivers, gloves and a woolly hat.
Goldberg was charged and pleaded guilty to the offences in Ranelagh Road and Crouch Hill at an earlier hearing. On Monday, 26 June Goldberg pleaded guilty to the offence in Hazellville Road, N6.
He was sentenced on the same day at Blackfriars Crown Court as follows:
– residential burglary in Hazellville Road, N6 on 7 January 2017 – five years’ imprisonment;
– residential burglary in Ranelagh Road, N22 on 13 November 2016 – 29 months’ imprisonment;
– residential burglary in Crouch Hill, N4 between 20 and 28 December 2016 – 29 months’ imprisonment.
All sentences to run concurrently.
During sentencing the judge heard how Goldberg had nine previous convictions for burglary and attempted burglary.
Detective Constable Debbie Barge of the Central North Command Unit led the investigation – she said:
“Goldberg was a prolific offender who brought misery and insecurity to those whose homes he targeted. He will now spend a significant amount of time behind bars.”
