THE EMPTY home of a family of five who died in the Helios air crash in 2005 has been robbed, police said yesterday.
The house where Christos Pyrillis 40, his wife Antonia, 36 and their three children Eva 12, Xenios 10 and Marcos six lived in Paralimni had been maintained by relatives as a shrine to the family who lost their lives in the crash, along with 116 other passengers and crew.
According to police, the robbery took place between May 16 and 17 and was discovered by relative Eleni Pyrillis,. The thieves took silverware and alcohol. Police said that the thieves broke in through a window and rifled through the place, leaving a mess behind them. “The sight that I beheld was shocking…I couldn’t believe my eyes, it’s a horrible thing to do,” said Pyrillis.
“We maintained the house religiously just as our loved ones left it, leaving for their final trip and then criminals came to trouble them for a second time,” said another relative, Lefteris Efthymiou.
Paralimni mayor and relative Theodoros Pirillis described the crime as disgusting.
