The Turkish Cypriot couple facing charges for waving the flag of Cyprus at their home in Turkish-occupied Famagusta met President Nicos Anastasiades on Tuesday.
Following the meeting, Koray Basdogrultmaci and Cinel Senem Husseyin said that Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci’s electoral victory last Sunday is great news for all Cypriots.
The couple have made a plea of help from the Cypriot government.
Describing their persecution by the so-called authorities, they said that, if convicted, they plan to take Turkey to the European Court of Justice.
“They can take the flag of the Republic of Cyprus from our homes and our shops, but they can’t take it from our hearts and minds,” they said.
The couple is scheduled to appear in ‘court’ on May 13
