Two jailed for non-recent sexual offences on young boys in Hornsey, Muswell Hill and Islington

Two men have been sentenced to a combined total of 19 years’ imprisonment for sexual offences against three boys between 1971 and 1984.

Chetin Hussyin, 66 (11.11.51), of Middle Hill, Liskeard, Cornwall, was sentenced on Friday, 28 September to 14 years’ imprisonment at Blackfriars Crown Court after being found guilty at the same court of:

– Two counts of buggery;
– Two counts of indecency with a child; and,
– Eight counts of indecent assault on a male.

Robert Thompson, 63 (30.06.65), of Clive Court, Maida Vale, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment at the same court after being found guilty on Thursday, 27 September of two counts of indecent assault on a male.

The court heard that between 1971 and 1973, Hussyin worked as an under 16s football coach on Turnpike Lane in Haringey, where he befriended two male victims – a 16-year-old [Victim 1] and a 14-year-old [Victim 2] – who he abused at his then home in Hornsey.

In 1977, Hussyin became a youth worker before training to be a social worker, giving him access to a third victim [Victim 3], aged between eight and nine years old at the time. He too was invited to Hussyin’s house where he would be sexually assaulted.

By this point, Hussyin had moved to another address in Highbury, with his lodger Thompson.

Here, ‘Victim 3’ would stay over at the property as his parents trusted Hussyin due to his profession. The sexual assaults continued.

In 1981, Hussyin and Thompson moved address again to Muswell Hill. The youngest victim, who was 11 years old by this time, continued to be sexually assaulted by Hussyin; and Thompson now became involved in the abuse.

After he came forward in May 2016, officers from the Met’s Child Abuse and Sexual Ofences Command (CASO) launched an immediate investigation.

‘Victim 1’ came forward in December 2016, and ‘Victim 2’ came forward in January 2017.

Detective Constable Dee Molloy, from CASO, said:“Hussyin abused his authority and access to children as a football coach and social worker to befriend young boys before sexually assaulting them, at times with his lodger Thompson.

“We would like to thank the victims for their courage in coming forward, their evidence has been crucial in securing these convictions. We believe there may well be further victims of Hussyin and Thompson out there, and would urge anyone with information to come forward and report it to police. You will be treated with the upmost respect and confidentiality.”
