The Silence of Memory
Fifty years have passed since the illegal invasion of Cyprus, but the wound remains as raw and deep as ever. Time has not healed the trauma; it has only woven it into the fabric of our lives. This piece is an exploration of that lingering pain, an attempt to make the invisible visible—to give shape to the grief, the loss, and the brokenness that still pulse through every generation.
Cypriots carry the weight of that day, each one echoing the same phrase: “We don’t forget.” It is a collective vow, a refusal to let history fade into silence. Through this work, I invite you to feel the weight of that unhealed wound, to experience the haunting presence of what was lost and the enduring hope for justice that cannot be erased.
The past may be distant, but its scars are carried in the hearts of all who lived it—and in the voices of those who will never stop remembering.
Η Σιωπή της Μνήμης
Πενήντα χρόνια πέρασαν από την παράνομη εισβολή στην Κύπρο, αλλά η πληγή παραμένει ανοιχτή και αθεράπευτη. Ο χρόνος δεν έχει γιατρέψει το τραύμα· το έχει υφαίνει ακόμα πιο βαθιά στις ψυχές μας. Αυτό το έργο είναι μια προσπάθεια να κάνω ορατό το αόρατο, να μεταδώσω τον πόνο, την απώλεια και την αίσθηση του αδιέξοδου που συνεχίζει να μας διατρέχει.
Οι Κύπριοι συνεχίζουν να επαναλαμβάνουν την ίδια φράση: “Δεν Ξεχνώ!” Είναι μια υπόσχεση, ένας όρκος να μην αφήσουμε την ιστορία να σβήσει στην αδιαφορία. Μέσα από αυτό το έργο, θέλω να νιώσετε την αβάσταχτη αυτή πληγή, να κατανοήσετε το βάρος της απώλειας που δεν ξεχνιέται και την ατέρμονη αναζήτηση για δικαιοσύνη.
Η πληγή μπορεί να μην είναι ορατή, αλλά παραμένει ζωντανή στις καρδιές αυτών που την έζησαν—και στις φωνές αυτών που θα συνεχίσουν να θυμούνται.
Nicole has also compiled the books, one in English and one in Greek, which is titled “Through my eyes” – Που μες’τα μάθκια μου, meaning it’s how she see things through her eyes 🙂
