Plenary session of 5+1 informal conference on Cyprus concluded

The plenary session in the framework of the 5+1 informal meeting on Cyprus convened by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in Geneva was completed Wednesday afternoon.

The plenary session was held at the Palace of the Nations where interventions were made by Guterres, President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades, Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Tatar and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the three guarantor powers, namely Greece, Turkey and the UK, Nikos Dendias, Mevlut Cavusoglu and Dominic Raab.

The SG will now hold bilateral meetings with each party. According to the programme, he will meet Cavusoglu, then Dendias, Raab, Tatar and Anastasiades.

The Cypriot President informed his close associates at the end of the plenary session.

At 2100 the UNSG will host a dinner with the participating of the head and one more person from each delegation. Anastasiades will be escorted by negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results.
