Turkish Cypriot side to receive 2,000 AstraZeneca doses and 75,000 rapid tests

Two thousand doses of AstraZeneca vaccines will be handed over to the Turkish Cypriots next week through the bicommunal Technical Committee for Health, while it has been confirmed that the Turkish Cypriot side will receive 75,000 rapid tests from the Republic of Cyprus, as soon as the relevant batch arrives from the EU.

Speaking to CNA, the Greek Cypriot Head of the Committee, Leonidas Phylactou, said that in a teleconference held on Friday with the Turkish Cypriot head, Cenk Soydan and experts, they had a discussion about rapid tests and they answered questions by the Turkish Cypriot side regarding the use, frequency and types of rapid antigen tests, providing all the necessary information.

It should be noted that so far, only PCR tests are valid for use in the Turkish Cypriot side.

Phylactou told CNA that they generally discussed the use of molecular tests (PCR) for people considered to be close contacts of Covid-19 cases, for patients who contracted coronavirus, as well as their use at the airport for passengers. The Turkish Cypriot side requested and received information about the vaccinations of chronic patients per category.
