UK Cypriots help Cyprus secure dramatic win over Latvia

UK Cypriots Marcus Edwards, Hector Kyprianou and Nick Tsaroulla all played their part as Cyprus came from behind to beat Latvia 2-1 at the GSP Stadium on Monday, 5 October.

Burnley winger Edwards scored the winner in stoppage time after a pass from Tsaroulla, completing a dramatic turnaround. Watford’s Kyprianou also featured in the Cyprus defence.

Latvia took the lead in the 57th minute through Daskewicz, before Ioannis Kostis equalised in the 70th minute.

Edwards then settled the match with a superb strike from outside the penalty area in the closing moments.

The result gave Cyprus a second successive Nations League victory, following their 2-0 win over Armenia, and left them second in their group with seven points from four matches.

Cyprus will complete their group campaign in November, travelling to Armenia on Thursday, 12 November, before hosting Montenegro in Limassol on Sunday, 15 November.

The victory was a memorable night for the national team and its UK Cypriot players, with Edwards and Tsaroulla combining for the decisive goal.
