It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Andreas Antoniou, the much-loved owner of Vrisaki, the award-winning restaurant in North London. He passed away on Monday 12 October 2026, aged 83.
Born in Koma Tou Yialou on 11 June 1943, Andreas built a life and career defined by hard work, dedication and a deep connection to his Cypriot roots.
After arriving in the UK, he began his career as a chef at the Marina Restaurant in the City of London. In 1981, he took the important step of opening his own establishment, Vrisaki, on Myddleton Road. Over the years, the restaurant became a well-known name in London, earning a reputation for its food, hospitality and contribution to the city’s Greek and Cypriot dining scene.
Vrisaki’s success was recognised in 2003, when the restaurant received both the Evening Standard Award and the London Tonight Award. The awards ceremony took place at the Grosvenor Hotel, with the prizes presented by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and the event broadcast on national television. These accolades marked a proud milestone in Andreas’ career and reflected the dedication he had invested in his restaurant.
Despite his professional success, Andreas never forgot his roots or the village that shaped him. He remained deeply connected to Koma Tou Yialou and served as the village association’s chairman for several years. He was also a committed supporter of numerous community organisations, giving his time and support to causes that brought people together and helped preserve the community’s heritage.
His passing will be deeply felt by his family, friends, former colleagues, customers and the many people whose lives he touched throughout the years.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones at this difficult time.
May his memory be eternal.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
